Trump Announces ‘The Time Has Come’:

Recent polling data reveals current President Joe Biden is experiencing a deficit in support compared to former President Donald Trump in five crucial battleground states. This development has raised concerns and confusion among Democratic senators, as it presents a significant political obstacle for the party’s Senate candidates vying for positions in those states.


The Democratic party expresses apprehension regarding the relatively low polling figures of President Biden and the implications this may have on his viability as a candidate in the upcoming 2024 election. However, they assert that, barring any significant alterations in the prevailing circumstances, Biden will remain the chosen choice of the party.

Nevertheless, it is acknowledged by critics that a significant number of voters express apprehension regarding Biden’s advanced age of 80 years.


“I hear immense praise for what he has done and how well he is doing on foreign policy and extremism at home. He’s doing everything right, is what I’m hearing. And yet there’s this lingering concern about electability,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said.

“The question about the polls concerns people,” added Blumenthal, who noted that Trump, 77, isn’t much younger than Biden.

Senate Democrats argue that in order to engage and mobilize young voters, President Biden should cultivate a more robust and progressively oriented political platform. In the demographic of voters aged 18 to 29, there is currently a near parity between him and Trump in terms of support.

According to a research by The Hill, in the year 2020, Joe Biden garnered 60% of the vote within this particular demographic, while Donald Trump received 36%.


“I think the president needs to have a more forceful message, and there are issues in our democracy — like the creeping dark money corruption, and in our environment, like increasingly chaotic climate problems we’re having — that deserve a real fighting stance,” Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) said.

“It’s useless to go to young people who understand what’s happening in climate and tell them, ‘Well, we passed the [Inflation Reduction Act],’” he said, referring to the bill Biden signed into law last year to make historic new investments in renewable energy technologies. “That’s been my pitch. You need to have a more forceful message and get it out there.”


Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) said, “We have work to do,” arguing that Biden “has a great story to tell that hasn’t been told yet, and that’s what campaigns are about.”

When it comes to GOP supporters, Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin said that Trump “is bulletproof, politically.”

North American Electric Reliability Corp (NERC) said on Wednesday:

More than half of the U.S. and parts of Canada, home to around 180 million people, could fall short of electricity during extreme cold again this winter due to lacking natural gas infrastructure, the North American Electric Reliability Corp (NERC) said on Wednesday.


In its 2023-24 winter outlook, the regulatory authority warned that prolonged, wide-area cold snaps threaten the reliability of bulk power generation and availability of fuel supplies for natural gas-fired generation.

"Recent extreme cold weather events have shown that energy delivery disruptions can have devastating consequences for electric and gas consumers in impacted areas," NERC said.

It put the U.S. Midwest, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and South, along with some Canadian provinces, at the highest risk for electricity supply shortages this winter.


Grid operators like Midcontinent ISO, PJM Interconnection, SERC Reliability Corp and Texas' ERCOT are vulnerable to generators going offline under extreme cold conditions, NERC said, adding that cold weather could also choke off gas pipelines in New England that has limited gas infrastructure.

"There is not enough natural gas pipeline and infrastructure to serve all the gas generation in certain big areas like PJM, MISO, New York, and New England," John Moura, NERC's director for reliability assessment and performance analysis, said during a media briefing.


NERC also found that load forecasting in winter is growing in complexity, and underestimating demand is a risk to reliability in extreme cold temperatures.

NERC, along with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, on Tuesday urged lawmakers to fill a regulatory blind spot to maintain a reliable supply of gas during extreme cold that was highlighted by an inquiry into power outages during Winter Storm Elliott in December 2022.


During Elliott, both electric and gas systems in much of the eastern half of the U.S. experienced significant stress, resulting in unplanned generation losses, with around 90,500 megawatts out at the same time, the inquiry found.

Flows of gas into pipelines were reduced during Elliott, while demand for the fuel for heating and power generation increased, dramatically lowering line pressures. That gas system only narrowly avoided significant outages.

In New York City, Consolidated Edison declared an emergency because it faced a system collapse that would have taken "many months" to restore service in the middle of the winter.

Deputy foreign minister Sergey Ryabkov said Russia was not ready to begin nuclear talks with the United States until Washington abandons its hostile stance. The development comes days after Russia was attacked by the long range ATACMs missiles delivered to Ukraine by the United States.
