· Seven weeks into Israel's military offensive to destroy Hamas as a military and political entity, the Biden administration now seems to be adopting a very different stance, one where it appears ready to scale down its commitment to supporting Israel's right to self-defence, and destroying Hamas, in favour of a ceasefire deal that would essentially gift victory to Hamas.
· Netanyahu has made no secret of his personal reservations about the hostage deal, arguing that any pause in Israel's military offensive would simply allow Hamas to regroup. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), in particular, had been opposed to the deal because they wanted to maintain the pressure against Hamas on the ground in Gaza.
· Indeed, Washington's willingness to impose ceasefires on Israel when its forces have clearly established a military advantage on the battlefield against their enemies has been a constant feature throughout Israel's 75-year existence.
· The Israelis will certainly be concerned at the role played by Qatar, which is one of Hamas's main military backers, in the negotiations. While the Qataris like to claim that they are simply using their contacts with Hamas to defuse tensions, the fact that Ismail Haniyeh, who masterminded the massacres, directed the attacks from his five-star hotel in Qatar, where he has been granted a safe haven, means the Israelis have every reason to be wary of Qatar's motives.
While the release of the first groups of hostages held by Hamas has inevitably raised hopes about the fate of the remaining Israeli hostages, it also exposes the Biden administration's worrying lack of commitment to supporting Israel's declared aim of destroying the Islamist terror group.
In the immediate aftermath of Hamas terrorists committing the worst terrorist atrocity in Israel's history on October 7, US President Joe Biden was quick to reassure Jerusalem that Washington fully supported Israel's right to defend itself.
After speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the White House issued a statement declaring:
"The United States unequivocally condemns this appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza, and I made clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that we stand ready to offer all appropriate means of support to the Government and people of Israel.
"Terrorism is never justified. Israel has a right to defend itself and its people... My Administration's support for Israel's security is rock solid and unwavering."
Biden emphasised his commitment to Israel's defence by dispatching two aircraft carrier battle groups to the region to deter other malevolent actors, such as Iran, from seeking to exploit the crisis by escalating the conflict into a broader Middle East war.

The Biden administration has made clear that it pressured the Netanyahu government into accepting the Qatar-sponsored hostage deal, which has resulted in a number of Israeli women and children being released in exchange for the release of convicted Palestinian terrorists from Israeli prisons.
Biden also expressed hope that the four-day "pause" in Israel's military offensive, which is being observed to allow the hostage release deal to take place, might ultimately lead to a broader ceasefire. Asked by reporters whether the four-day pause could be extended, Biden replied, "I think the chances are real."
While conceding that Israel's quest to destroy Hamas was "legitimate", Biden revealed that his administration's key objective was to end the fighting at the earliest available opportunity.
"My expectation and hope is that as we move forward, the rest of the Arab world and the region is also putting pressure on all sides to slow this down, to bring this to an end as quickly as we can," Biden said.

Israeli commanders certainly understood the fickleness of Washington's declared support for their military offensive from the start, as Washington has an undistinguished record of abandoning its Israeli ally in times of peril.
During the IDF's military incursions in Gaza in 2009 and 2014, for example, the Israelis were forced to stop fighting within three weeks, with ceasefires brokered on both occasions by Egypt and forced on Israel by Washington.
Indeed, Washington's willingness to impose ceasefires on Israel when its forces have clearly established a military advantage on the battlefield against their enemies has been a constant feature throughout Israel's 75-year existence.
And, judging from the Biden administration's current enthusiasm for a ceasefire, it appears Washington is determined to follow a similar path of appeasement with regard to the current Gaza crisis, even if the Israeli government remains determined to maintain its offensive until Hamas' terrorist infrastructure in Gaza has been completely eradicated.
Israel will certainly be under no illusions about the pitfalls of the hostage deal that has so far resulted in the release of only a small proportion of the estimated 240 Israeli hostages seized by Hamas during the October 7 attack.
The Israelis will certainly be concerned at the role played by Qatar, which is one of Hamas's main military backers, in the negotiations. While the Qataris like to claim that they are simply using their contacts with Hamas to defuse tensions, the fact that Ismail Haniyeh, who masterminded the massacres, directed the attacks from his five-star hotel in Qatar, where he has been granted a safe haven, means the Israelis have every reason to be wary of Qatar's motives.
Israel will also, with good reason, have concerns that the hostage deal as currently constructed, with Israel being obliged to release convicted terrorists in return for innocent Israeli civilians, will simply bolster Hamas' credentials.
The boost Hamas has received from the deal was evident when the first Palestinian prisoners were released from Israeli prisons and returned to their homes in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
IDF soldiers guarding Ofer Prison, near Ramallah, fired tear gas to disperse crowds of Palestinians who chanted "the people want Hamas" while awaiting the release of the first batch of 39 convicted Palestinian terrorists.
One of the reasons the US and its allies have previously ruled out negotiating with terror groups is that, by doing so, there is a danger of legitimising the terrorists' activities.
The Biden administration's willingness to abandon this long-held principle in favour of negotiating with Hamas, therefore, runs the risk of boosting support for Hamas at the very time that Israel is actively seeking to destroy the terrorist group, a policy that completely undermines Washington's claim that it supports Israel's right to self-defence.

Now, bear in mind that the arrival of this statue was years after the 1998 publication of the first edition of The Antichrists and a Cup of Tea (ISBN 0-9662793-0-1), and there is no other man or woman who is being called "Saviour of the World" other than this prince whom Tim Cohen decades ago identified as the foretold Antichrist — according to a true understanding of the prophetic scriptures. ‘I will Hunt-you-Down’:
A Miss Universe judge who happens to be Jewish has apparently received death threats after she engaged with a Palestinian activist on air amid the war playing out in Gaza.
The New York Post reported that Emily Austin, a Jewish journalist who engages in activism related to the Jewish state, appeared on "Piers Morgan Uncensored" in late October to discuss the conflict playing out in the Middle East.
The segment quickly turned sour after Austin confronted Nerdeen Kiswani, an anti-Israel activist, who expressed doubt that an Islamic Jihad's failed rocket was responsible for the Ahli Baptist Hospital explosion in Gaza City.
As the segment continued, Austin eventually asked Kiswani if she condemned the 9/11 attacks in the U.S. Instead of coming out and condemning those attacks outright, Kiswani simply dismissed the question as "ridiculous."
Austin accused Kiswani of targeting her online by posting a picture of her with a red triangle above her head, seeming to suggest that there was a bounty on Austin.
Austin spoke with Fox News Digital about the segment, saying: "I really tried to keep it fact-based, unemotional, like this is what this is. She was yelling. She was talking over me, threatening me on Instagram with, like, a red arrow over my head, telling people how funny it was to put a bounty on my head. That’s not so funny."
The Anti-Defamation League has identified Kiswani, the leader of the Within Our Lifetime-United for Palestine group, as a radical who has routinely supported violence against the Jewish state.
"Kiswani’s antisemitism is clearly expressed via her expressions of extreme anti-Zionist rhetoric, including her calls for all 'Zionists' to be vilified and expelled from community spaces, as well as her support for indiscriminate violence against Israel aimed at the country's dissolution," according to the ADF.
Following Austin's engagement with Kiswani, she reportedly received a slew of hateful messages on social media, some of which threatened her life.
“I will find you and sell you. A Jew like you in Gaza will be expensive $$,” one social media user wrote.
“I’ll kill you f***ing wh**e. I will hunt you down like we did to Israeli people,” another apparently said.
Other names Austin was called include “stupid Jewish b***h” and “f***ing lying piece of s**t.”
The Post reported that there was one user who said that Austin “deserved” to have a bullet put between her eyes, and another reportedly said they hoped she would be raped and killed.

How should we respond to the escalating bloodshed in Israel/Gaza which threatens to ignite a wider war? At the very least, we ought to pray, but isn't there something else we can do or say as ambassadors of the Prince of Peace? What about engaging others in seasoned with salt conversations that point people to Jesus? Didn't Christ instruct us to look for a person of peace? And doesn't the Bible say we ought to have our FEET shod with the readiness to GO and share the gospel of peace? (Ephesians 6:15) [Sandals]
Last week the Lord answered our prayers, by opening a door for meaningful witness about peace with several Muslim friends* and a couple neighbors, one of whom is Jewish. I also engaged someone on this subject while waiting in a long line at the coffee shop and later with two Uber drivers who took me to and from a tire-changing errand on behalf of a friend. Each of these conversations was unique with a totally different segue, as led by the Spirit. For example, with the lady, who patiently waited to order her coffee, I remarked about the unusually long queue. The conversation continued as I asked, “Have you followed any of the news stories about the war in Gaza?” to which she replied, “Not really, but my husband has.” I told her that I've been feeling deeply concerned about what's happening, so much so, that I wrote some thoughts in an article titled, “Messiah the Peacemaker.” I suggested that if she wanted to find it on google, she could simply search for that title. She wasn't sure if she could remember it, so I wrote it out and gave it to her.

Dutch Populists Focus on National Sovereignty, EU Push Back
For decades, the hard-right firebrand Geert Wilders has been shunned from mainstream Dutch politics. So when the results from the Netherlands’ snap election showed his Party for Freedom (PVV) emerging as the largest party, even he could hardly contain his shock. “35!” Wilders exclaimed in apparent disbelief, his arms outstretched, as the exit polls flashed the party’s projected seat count on the screen. (That forecast has since risen to 37 seats, putting the PVV well ahead of its main center-left and center-right rivals, which won 25 and 23 seats, respectively.)
While Wilders’ first-place performance puts him in a strong position as the parties enter into coalition talks, the prospect of him entering the Dutch government, let alone leading it as prime minister, is not a foregone conclusion. That will ultimately depend on whether any of the other 15 parties elected to Parliament are willing to enter into coalition with Wilders, which some parties, including the second-place Labor-Green alliance, have ruled out.
But regardless of whether the far-right leader wins power, or in what capacity, the outcome of the Dutch elections is particularly bad news for the European Union, which alongside Islam and immigration remains one of Wilders’ ideological bogeymen. In addition to campaigning for a Brexit style “Nexit” referendum, Wilders also advocates ending the free movement of labor within the E.U. and, perhaps most concerning of all for the bloc, cutting military aid to Ukraine. Nationalist leaders as far afield as Austria, Belgium, Italy, France, Germany, and Spain all rejoiced at the prospect of another nationalist, anti-establishment voice joining their ranks.
Analysts who spoke with TIME say that the prospect of the Netherlands ending its military aid to Ukraine outright remains unlikely, with or without Wilders in power. Indeed, the Dutch government recently allocated an additional 2 billion euros in military aid, bringing the Hague’s total support for Ukraine to roughly 7.5 billion euros. “I presume that probably won’t happen, depending on how the coalition works out,” Ben Coates, the author of Why the Dutch are Different, tells TIME in a phone call. “But I think that’s a dangerous moment for the E.U. and for Ukraine when that starts to become an election-winning issue.”
While observers credit Wilders’ campaigning on salient issues such as immigration and the cost of living as part of the reason he was able to command such unexpected support, the scale of his victory can also be attributed at least, in part, to the approach of his center-right rivals, who not only helped amplify his signature issue (outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s successor Dilan Yesilgöz, herself a former refugee, pledged to cut immigration if elected) but even opened the door to working alongside Wilders in coalition. In doing so, the center-right had perhaps hoped to outflank Wilders among right-wing voters. By treating Wilders as a viable coalition partner, however, they appear to have achieved just the opposite.
Should Wilders enter the Dutch government, “there will be a much tougher line on spending and the treaties that are agreed in the E.U. on immigration and asylum policy,” says Coates, noting that Brussels would almost certainly find itself with a much more difficult partner in the Netherlands than it’s had in the last 13 years under Rutte. But even if Wilders is excluded from government and the country ends up with a more left-leaning coalition, such as one led by former European Commissioner Frans Timmermans, Coates says he will still be able to “steer the debate and frame it in such a way that [makes] it tricky for Dutch politics to come out strongly pro-Europe at this point.”
What sway Wilders will ultimately have on the Netherlands—and, by extension, Europe—will ultimately be determined by the outcome of the coalition talks, which are expected to be a months-long affair. Sarah de Lange, a politics professor at the University of Amsterdam, tells TIME in a phone call that although the exclusion of the largest party from government is not without precedent, the scale of Wilders’ victory would make such a gambit extremely difficult. “It will mean that this coalition will very likely include four, if not five, parties,” she says, which would make the government vulnerable to division. It also risks creating a legitimacy crisis that Wilders could exploit. “Even though these parties might exclude him from government, that might mean that his voters become even more dissatisfied with democracy and its workings because they’re the largest party and they’re being excluded,” says de Lange, “which matches the populist narrative of the idea that there is a political elite that’s trying to keep him from power.”
If Brussels is worried about the hard-right’s rise in the Netherlands and what it portends for next year’s European elections, it isn’t showing it. “We continue to count on the Netherlands’ strong participation in the European Union,” European Commission spokesperson Eric Mamer told reporters on Thursday. But as the bloc’s Euroskeptic wing sees it, Wilders’ victory has reinvigorated Europe’s populist right at a time when many believed it was losing support.
“The winds of change are here!” Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in a celebratory post. In response, one social media user said: “Let's hope that the wind will blow all over Europe.”
